Project Collaboration

Identify NEW potential project collaboration idea. Identify your interest in any of the evolving project collaborations below.

Present Project Collaboration Recommendations

Water Based Economy

“Water Based Economy” (LMCO Presentation – Oct. 28 PGS Workshop)

o How earth-based tech developments can interact with space targeted tech developments.

Recycle and Reuse Technologies

Create a community of interest on the nexus of earth based “Recycle and Reuse technologies” and space targeted recycle and reuse technologies

o Identify potential leads and participants

Sustainable Launch Operations

Establish a collaborative community of interest on “Sustainable Launch Operations”.

o Commercial companies are encouraged to get involved with sharing best practices and challenges

PGS PROJECT COLLABORATION VISION:

Improve life through environmentally friendly approaches

PGS PROJECT COLLABORATION MISSION:

Identify and approaches through collaborative activities that enhances readiness and reduces risk while minimizing duplication and associated costs

Sustainment Issues / Challenges (EXAMPLES):

  • Increasing weapon system life cycle costs can be tied to hazardous material usage
  • Support funds continue to decrease
  • Natural resources depletion
  • Human behavior
  • Difficult to meet requirements
    • Multiple customers with multiple approaches
  • Balance system performance requirements
    • Technical risks – operational and performance
    • Environmental risks – air, soil, water releases
    • Health/Safety risks – human life
    • Cost risks – life cycle cost impacts

PGS Collaboration Project Solutions:

  • Identify joint opportunities and find shared solutions through partnership
  • Facilitate common qualification requirements
  • Establish criteria for selecting projects
  • Manage projects
  • Develop and promote acceptance of joint test and validation protocols for alternative technologies and processes
  • Interface opportunities with other interested parties including chartered groups, federal agencies, industry, industry associations, and allied governments
  • Encourage joint solutions to evolving law and policy implications
  • Reduces duplication
  • Reduces risk

Project Methodology:

PGS utilizes an established process approach successful in a number of instances that worked well. This includes agreed upon test criteria and reports that lead to potential process and standards changes.

Previously Sponsored by:

Previous Collaboration Projects collaborated with United States and International Government Agencies, corporations, and academia.

Subject

Aliphatic Iso Urethanes Replacement on Structural Steel

Overview

Demonstrate and validate alternatives to isocyanate polyurethanes for protecting infrastructure and support equipment.  Validate environmentally preferable alternatives to isocyanate urethane coatings for corrosion protection of structural steel.

Subject

Depainting Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessment

Overview

Conduct an environmental opportunity assessment of the current depainting activities and make recommendations for alternative depainting technologies to help limit particulate emissions, reduce waste, and increase worker efficiency.

Subject

Green Roof Storm Water Management

Overview

Supplement the recent green roof installed atop building with instrumentation (soil moisture, runoff) to assess green roof performance.

Subject

Hexavalent Chrome Free Coatings for Electronics

Overview

Test hexavalent chrome free coatings for use in electronic housings, fixtures, chassis and attachments. Testing encompassed a coatings ability to resist corrosion as well as determine EMI/RFI properties.  Beach site corrosion testing incorporated as well to test in high corrosive Oceanside area.

Subject

Laser Coating Removal for Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

Overview

Demonstrate one or more portable laser technologies for use on Ground Support Equipment (GSE).

Subject

Evaluation of Spent Blast Media as an Alternative Aggregate in Concrete Applications

Overview

Demonstration and evaluation of viability of diverting select non-hazardous spent blast media as an alternative aggregate in specific concrete applications to help meet waste diversion requirements of Executive Order 13514 Sections 2(e) (ii) (iii) and (h).
